33-year-old man arrested, accused of assaulting police officer in Braddock

Man charged with assaulting officers, trying to take their SUV in North Braddock

BRADDOCK, Pa. (KDKA) — A 33-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly carjacked a police officer in Braddock.

Just after 9 p.m. Tuesday, Allegheny County 911 responded to an assault at Baldridge Avenue in North Braddock.

"A fight stemmed off an address on Baldridge Avenue. A male fled the scene, and our officers were in pursuit to locate the suspect," said North Braddock Police Chief Isaac Daniele.

A short time later, another 911 call came in, saying that Moore was attempting a carjacking outside of a nearby Family Dollar store in Braddock.

When officers arrived and tried to take Moore into custody, he allegedly became violent. Moore then began to fight officers and proceeded to jump into a police vehicle and pushed the officer inside the vehicle out.

"The suspect somehow got into the passenger side of our police car, carjacked the officer that was driving, pushed her out of the car, and then attempted to run them over and officers returned fire," Daniele said.

That's when police began shooting at their hijacked SUV. Moore was not hit by the gunfire and officers were then able to get him out of the vehicle and arrest him. He was later taken to a local area hospital for evaluation.

One officer also had to go to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from the altercation.

Moore is now in custody facing aggravated assault, assault of a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest charges.
