Lower Kiski Ambulance involved in crash on Freeport Road

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An ambulance from Armstrong County was involved in a violent crash near the Waterworks Mall in Pittsburgh early this morning.

The crash happened along Freeport Road around 4 a.m. Pittsburgh police said the Lower Kiski ambulance had been transporting a woman to St. Margaret Hospital when it crossed the centerline and struck a guardrail.

A woman in the back of the vehicle sustained head injuries and was initially unresponsive, police said. She was taken by Pittsburgh EMS to the hospital in critical condition. 

Neither the patient nor the driver reported any injuries. 

Pittsburgh police's collision investigation unit responded to the scene to investigate. Freeport Road was closed but reopened just after 6 a.m.
