Locals Among Those Stranded In NY Snow Storm
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Western New York has been walloped with snow, and at least three people from our area are among the many who are stranded on snow-covered highways.
Tony Moffa, a 19-year-old veteran from Beitler Trucking in Esplen, says there's 70 inches of snow on the ground outside Buffalo.
He's been trapped there since 3 a.m. Tuesday.
"It got heavier, heavier and heavier, and then there was an accident," said Moffa. "A couple cars got tangled up ahead of us, and from that point, a trooper got stuck. A tow truck got stuck. And it just started coming down in blankets."
He says he was prepared with food and water, but not everyone else is.
Bryce Foreback from Chicora was on his way to visit his sister when he got trapped on Interstate 90, according to his girlfriend Kelly Brown.
She's upset with news reports saying that everyone's OK.
"Everyone's just frustrated that they have to be in traffic, but everyone has blankets, and they're just fine, which is 100 percent farthest from the truth that it could possibly be," said Brown.
She says where Foreback is, gas in cars is running low and cell phones are almost dead.
The National Guard has been brought in to help stranded drivers. More than 100 miles of thruway is closed.
