Local Mom Pushing For Medical Marijuana Bill To Pass

PITTSBURGH(News Radio 1020 KDKA) - Could legalized medical marijuana be coming to Pennsylvania? One State Senator and a local mother are pushing for it.

State Sen. Mike Folmer, Patrick Nightingale who is the head of the Pittsburgh chapter of NORML, and local mother Heather Shucker joined Robert Mangino to talk about the latest news of where the bill stands.

Sen Folmer said the the bill may be held up because, "of the word marijuana."

"You have this unfortunate misperception of a plant that can bring a lot of help to sick people here in Pennsylvania," he said.

Shuker has an 11-year-old daughter that suffers from seizures.

"We never know what kind of day Hanna is going to have," Shuker said. "We never know each day how long Hanna is going to be with us, each seizure could literally take her life."

Sen. Folmer and Nightingale talked about the legislative process and the likelihood of this bill being passed this year. Patrick also spoke on the legal challenges that parents face.
