I-79 Reopens Following Downed Power Lines

MARSHALL TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Interstate 79 has reopened to traffic following closures due to lightning strikes downing power lines.

Crews from Penn Power reset the utility poles.

The northbound off-ramp to Route 910 will remain closed while crews continue work.

A lightning strike in Marshall Township fored the closure of part of Interstate 79 this afternoon as severe storms made their way through the area.

According to Allegheny County emergency officials, lightning struck a pole along Wexford Bayne Road at Brandt School Road in Marshall Township. The lightning strike caused a chain reaction, causing other poles to lean and sending some wires crashing to the ground.
