Lawrence County Pastor's Home Burglarized
LAWRENCE COUNTY (KDKA) -- A pastor's home burglarized, but he's not mad. He's actually thankful about the way it all went down.
"We can always ask why, but some things we don't have answers to," Pastor Larry Llewellyn said.
The burglars broke in while he and his wife were fast asleep. They got away with some valuables, but the pastor says God was truly on his side.
Llewellyn thinks someone used a credit card to quietly break the lock Wednesday night to get into his home in South New Castle. Once inside, the burglar found his wallet and car keys in the kitchen and other valuables in the living room.
"They took the money out of my wallet," he said, "and they took the keys, and that's how they headed for the car ... The laptop and the iPad were over in the corner, plugged in."
The pastor's home is attached to the Hoover Heights Alliance Church in South New Castle. Someone not only broke into his house, but they stole his 2009 Kia Sportage. It all happened while he and his wife were upstairs, asleep.
"God was with us because had we been awake, I would have come down and confronted them, and who knows what would have happened?" he said. "Someone would have got hurt or even worse."
State police says $15,000 worth of property was taken. Llewellyn was philosophical about the break-in.
"On the 23rd psalm, on the second verse, it says he makes me lie down in green pastures and a sheep will only lay down when it knows its safe," he said, "and when we were laying down, the only reason we were safe was because the good shepherd was watching over us."
Pastor Llewellyn has been here for 32 years. This is the first time he's ever been a victim of a crime. While he forgives the person or persons responsible, he says in addition to the law, they still have to answer to a higher power. He adds that all the stolen merchandise was owned by the church.
"What they took was God's, and he'll deal with his own stuff," he said.
