Lawmakers Banned From Posting Ice Bucket Challenge Videos On Official Accounts
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Committee of House Administration is dumping cold water on members of the House of Representatives, banning them from posting videos of themselves participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on official accounts.
The Committee reportedly told members that if they want to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge then they need to post their videos to personal or campaign accounts, any posting to official accounts would violate house rules.
An email sent to members of the House, and obtained by Politico, said, "No doubt, this is for an admirable cause.
There is apparently a prohibition in the Members Handbook and in the Ethics Manual on the use of official resources for the promotion or benefit of any private charitable cause."
The ALS Ice Bucket challenge has reportedly raised more than 30-million dollars in just the past few weeks.
The social media campaign involves dumping a bucket of ice water over your head, and nominating friend and family members to do the same, or donate money to the ALS foundation.
