PENN HILLS (KDKA) -- The suspect in a laundromat theft has been caught in Penn Hills.

Police say the suspect was caught breaking into a laundromat in Penn Hills overnight Thursday into Friday. The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, is currently being held at the Penn Hills Police Department.

"The first arriving officer saw the individual coming out of the front door of the laundromat. He was carrying a crow bar, various other tools, had gloves in his hand, and confronted the officer outside the building," Penn Hills Police Chief Howard Burton said.

Police are trying to determine if the suspect is the same person accused of breaking into four laundromats in 24 hours.

Surveillance footage showed that suspect using a crowbar to get money out of laundry machines at laundromats located in West Mifflin, Baldwin, Monroeville and Dravosburg.

Kip Carroll, general manager of Matrik Properties, runs 13 laundromats in the Pittsburgh area. He said that suspect got away with several hundreds of dollars in coins and caused thousands of dollars worth of damage.
