North Side Bike Shop Listed As 1 Of The Things "To Do In Pittsburgh Before You Die"

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The author of "100 Things To Do In Pittsburgh Before You Die" has five personal favorites: Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, the Mattress Factory Museum, the Nationality Rooms at Pitt, Saint Anthony's on Troy Hill, and... Bicycle Heaven?

Tucked away in the Chateau section of the North Side is the biggest bike shop and museum in the world.

"I actually started with one bicycle that I found in the junk. And I sold it to a kid down in the alleyway," owner Craig Morrow recalls.

Since then, he has collected 3,500 rare bicycles.

"This bike was made before the Civil War. It's an all wooden bicycle," Morrow says, referring to a bike called the "bone shaker."

And the best part is upstairs.

"We actually have some Elvis bicycles, and two of the Beatle bicycles right here," the owner points out.

He also has a bike ridden by Peewee Herman in "Peewee's Great Adventure."

Tony Hinerman and his wife came in for repairs, handled by the owners' son, Henry. And weary trail riders and walkers get massages and pedicures from Craig's wife, Mindy.

It really is a slice of "Bicycle Heaven."
