PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Heinz Field is a beehive of activity this week as the stage is starting to take shape. Kenny Chesney returning to the North Shore has become Pittsburgh's unofficial start to the summer concert season. (Even though Justin Timberlake and Dave Matthews will be in concert the night before.)

But Chesney is king of the big stadium shows.

Nick Sero, the communications manager for Heinz Field, says, "You know this is Kenny's 10th time. It means a lot to the fans of his music in the area."

Special guests Thomas Rhett, Old Dominion and Brandon Lay will join Chesney.

The concerts have been memorable for the music, for the mess in 2013 after the concert was over, and for the rowdiness of the crowd. But, that was five years ago, and Sero says the Chesney crowd has evolved.

"I think fans kind of took it on themselves to kind of curtail some activity and be a little more respectful," he said.

The changes made in how the day plays out have also helped.

So, once again, this year, Sero says, "Anyone who parks on the North Shore will have to have a ticket to the concert to get into the parking lot. As folks enter the parking lot, they will be given garbage bags and recycling bags so they can dispose of their waste as they leave."

And there is an expectation of a certain level of decorum expected from the fans as they party all day in the parking lots and on the North Shore park.

The following parking lot code of conduct will be in effect:

  • Upon entering, fans will receive trash and recycling bags
  • Trash must be disposed of properly
  • The following are prohibited: solicitation of any kind, the sale of food and alcohol, glass containers, tents, personal port-a-johns, furniture (other than folding lawn chairs and tables), and oversized vehicles.

To make sure, Sero says, "Just like any event, there will be Pittsburgh Police working with ALCO and working with Heinz Field."

Here a timeline for the day's events:

Noon – Y108's Tiki Town will open on Art Rooney Avenue starting at noon. Fans will be able to compete in games, win prizes, purchase food and beverage and see live music performances.
1 p.m. – The parking lots open
4 p.m. – Gates open – standard stadium security protocol will be in force.
5 p.m. – Music starts
7 p.m. – Fans must leave the parking lot and head into the stadium. Anyone remaining in the parking lot will be ordered to leave.
9 p.m. – Chesney takes the stage
Post-Concert – Fans have an hour to get back to their car, clean up the area, and leave the parking lot.

These rules are not just for Chesney's fans. If you will be coming to the Luke Bryan or Taylor Swift shows, Sero says, "It will be the same for each concert this summer."

The NFL's clear bag policy will also be in place for the "Trip Around the Sun Tour." Fans will not be able to bring selfie sticks, coolers, large bags, alcohol and other prohibited items inside the stadium.
