Kennedy Twp. Man's Death Now Being Investigating As A Homicide
KENNEDY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Allegheny County Police say they are now investigating a man's death in Kennedy Township as a homicide.
John Parkes, 59, was found dead Monday on Poplar Street.
An autopsy revealed Parkes was killed by a gunshot wound.
He was shot in the head.
And while the case was just a suspicious death Monday, it's a homicide Tuesday.
"We are treating this as a homicide," said Lt. Andrew Schurman with Allegheny County Police. "We do believe he suffered a gunshot wound and that was the fatal wound."
Police checked reports that some of the doors Parkes usually locked were open Monday and police were going over all those details Tuesday.
"No signs of forced entry," Schurman said. "It's possible the victim let the assailant in."
Meantime the neighborhood was more attentive to detail Tuesday too.
"And now I am concerned because I take care of a patient right now around the corner," said Carold Sutey-Hughes. "And he's concerned too. But this area has been peaceful. That's why mother and he moved in here. It's a peaceful area, it's Kennedy, it's a good neighborhood. This don't happen here."
Police are asking anyone who was in the vicinity of Poplar Street on Monday with information about the case to call county homicide detectives.
