Coronavirus In Allegheny County: 29 Kane Community Living Center Residents, Employees Test Positive For Coronavirus
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A total of nearly 30 residents and employees at the Kane Community Living Center in Glen Hazel have tested positive for COVID-19.
There are 29 coronavirus patients at the assisted living facility. KDKA's Andy Sheehan reports 18 residents and 11 employees have tested positive.
There are 23 tests pending.
The facility reported its first case in late March. On March 27, there were two residents and one staff member with coronavirus.
Staff leaving the center on Tuesday declined to comment, but County Controller Chelsa Wagner says her office has heard complaints about working conditions from several.
"Over the past week or two, we've fielded reports from staff and others that they're not being directed to follow best practices of social distancing and disinfecting of common areas," Wagner said.
The county administration immediately dismissed Wagner's comments as grandstanding, calling them "insulting, unproductive and unconscionable."
During the crisis, the county says it has stopped family visits and suspended communal activities and dining here and at other Kane centers.
"We are in the middle of a crisis here and focused on doing everything we can to make sure our residents and staff are safe. ... We have all hands on deck so we can be responsive and adapt quickly to all developments and information," Allegheny County said in a statement.
