Josh Yohe On Ray Shero's Future: Burkle Wants Him Out, Lemieux Is "Hesitant"
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - As the speculation rolls on about the future for head coach Dan Bylsma and General Manager Ray Shero, Pittsburgh Tribune Review Penguins Beat Writer Josh Yohe joined Starkey and Mueller to tell us the latest that he's hearing.
When it comes to Shero's future, it sounds like there might be a power struggle going on in the owners' box.
"Everything I'm hearing, boy, it sure sounds like there's a good chance that he will be," Yohe told us. "It sounds to me like Ron Burkle wants to fire him and that Mario Lemieux is a lot more hesitant to do so. I'm not so sure that I would fire Shero. When I look at Ray Shero and most of his free agent signings and the trades he's made, I think he's the best in the business. Has he made some mistakes, sure he has. But if you want to get rid of Ray fine, who are you going to bring in? Who is out there right now that is better than Ray Shero? I'm not sure there is anyone. I'd be careful what you wish for with Ray."
Meanwhile, when it comes to Bylsma, Yohe says he's a great coach, but it seems like his time has run out here and it's more than likely only a matter of time at this point.
"Dan Bylsma, he's gone, and I think that's probably the right decision even though I think he's a good coach," he said.
Yohe went on to talk about one of the reasons why the end may be near for Bylsma that we haven't heard much about.
"I think it's clear that there's a little bit of a disconnect between Crosby and Malkin and the head coach," he said. "I've been sensing it for a while. It was clear to me that Crosby seemed a little annoyed by Bylsma, and Bylsma probably grew tired of dealing with superstars."
