Jason La Canfora: Expect $20M For Roethlisberger, Don't Expect 4 Key Vets Back

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – CBS NFL insider Jason La Canfora joined Colin Dunlap and Jim Colony on "The Fan Morning Show" Wednesday to break down some of the questions and challenges that will await the Steelers this offseason.

La Canfora said he expects Ben Roethlisberger's new contract to come in at about $20 million a year.

"Whether it's a shade above or a shade below, I don't think it will really matter," La Canfora said. "I know internally there, for a while, they've been looking at this as he's going to be a $20 million a year guy. It's just a matter of what the cap numbers look like, how creative do they get with that, how do they spread this around. The projection will be somewhere around $20 million in cash per year."

He also said that he doesn't expect Troy Polamalu, Brett Keisel, Ike Taylor, or James Harrison to be back with the Steelers.

"I don't," La Canfora said. "I think it'll be trickier with Troy than anybody else, and maybe he goes ahead and retires, and if he doesn't, then maybe it gets a little uncomfortable there. But, I don't see those guys back. We saw it with Hines Ward - you guys know, you live there. This is going to happen from time to time. Sometimes it happens with just a guy here or there, sometimes it happens with a whole class of guys, sort of like this. But, you're always replenishing, you're trying to get younger, you're trying to get better and faster, and it's a young man's game."
