James Conner Named AFCA First Team All-American

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - You can add another achievement to the mantle of Pitt running back James Conner as he was named to the 26-player American Football Coaches Association All-American Team.

Conner is Pitt's first running back to earn first team All-America honors in 27 years following Craig "Ironhead" Heyward. Before Heyward, the last Pitt running back to be named first team All-America was Tony Dorsett in 1976.

Conner released the following statement through the University of Pittsburgh:

"I'm incredibly honored that the American Football Coaches Association would select me for this tremendous recognition," Conner said. "Again, this gives me the opportunity to thank my own coaches and teammates. This honor is as much theirs as it is mine. I love Pitt, I love my team and I'm really excited about what we can achieve moving forward. The sky is the limit for this program and we're going to work hard every day to make our university proud."

Conner was already named the ACC Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year by league media and head coaches.

On the year, Conner ranks fifth nationally with 1,675 yards and ranks third in rushing touchdowns with 24.

Conner will put a bow on the season when the Panthers travel to Fort Worth, Texas to play in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl against Houston on Jan. 2.
