Is There A Potential Red Flag With A Top Steelers Draft Target?
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – NFL Network analyst Charles Davis joined "The Fan Morning Show" on Tuesday to break down the NFL Draft, including what options the Steelers may have at No. 15.
Wide receiver has been a major focus for Steelers' fans, with much of the hype centered around two names- Mike Evans and Kelvin Benjamin.
Evans is generally the higher-touted of the two prospects, but Davis thinks that Evans may be slipping out of the Steelers' grasp, and might not be an option for them anymore.
"I would have thought that there was a possibility of that prior to Tampa Bay unloading Mike Williams," Davis said. "But now, sitting at seventh, I have a hard time believing [that] if Mike Evans is still available at No. 7, that he gets past Tampa there."
That would probably leave Benjamin as the best option for the Steelers. While Davis sees Benjamin as a comparable talent, he notes that there's a knock on Benjamin that makes him a less desirable prospect than Evans.
"Mike Evans and Kelvin Benjamin are, in a lot of ways, the same guy," Davis said. "But, I do know that a number of scouts and personnel people like Evans a lot better really for this reason - he doesn't weigh over 240 pounds, 240 pound receivers scare the heck out of NFL personnel people because when you do your studies, and you go back and look, name the 240 pound receiver that was - forget All-Pro- that was productive over a period of time. They just really haven't. He's not out there."
