Invention Convention Brings Together Inventors With Product Developers & Marketers

MONROEVILLE (KDKA) -- It's an invention convention right here in Pittsburgh at the Monroeville Convention Center.

"We have 275 inventors here all together," says Nicole Lininger, trade show director for InventHelp INPEX that sponsors the convention.

Hundreds of inventions are on display -- like an unusual car seat for dogs.

"My dogs fell on the floor. My heart dropped to my stomach, and I went home and invented this," said Ira Stahl of K9 Car Fence.

Or a special new sound system, or a ghost detector, or a new pasta sauce.

Inventors have descended on Pittsburgh from all over the United States and 20 nations.

"INPEX is the largest trade show in the country for inventors," says Lininger. "Our goal is to bring inventors with new products and companies together."

Thousands of inventors come up with great ideas every year, but most never make it to the marketplace.

This convention is designed to bring inventors together with marketers.

Vincent Rugani and his family from McKees Rocks have a high test cleaner that removes even permanent magic market from any flat screen.

"Things have been going well, but we just want to get our product out there," says Rugani.

It's the goal of every inventor, including former police officer Rich Wilson of Butler who designed an easy to use gun lock.

"We want to get the word out of what we have. And with GunBlocker, every life we can safe it's a win," adds Wilson.

The McCaslins of Whitehall were among the lucky ones chosen to pitch their product to AJ Khubani, the founder of TeleBrands that markets those "Seen On TV" products.

"This has a tip prevention device so you can't accidentally lose your drink," Sam McCaslin told Khubani during his presentation.

Khubani was intrigued.

"We sell gadgets, many of them are come up by every day inventors like the ones you find here," Khubani told KDKA money editor Jon Delano.

"So we're here to find our next big product."

So will that be a Pittsburgh inventor?

While only inventors and companies looking to market products are invited for the first days of the convention, this Thursday all members of the public are welcomed to attend.
