One Person Dies In Car Accident On I-79
BUTLER COUNTY (KDKA) -- One man is dead following an accident that took place at the intersection of Route 108 and the northbound ramp of Route 79 in Butler County Sunday afternoon.
According to police, the 18-year-old driver of a Ford Fusion failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection and was then struck the driver side by a Subaru Forrester.
The Butler County Medical Examiner's Office has identified him as Cole Wilson.
State police said this is a busy intersection.
"Young people involved makes it even more sad. I always caution everyone to obey all traffic laws, stop signs, street lights and speed limits," said Trooper Dan Kesten with Troop D, Butler Barracks.
He just graduated from Portersville Christian School on Saturday. He served as team captain on the Portersville Christian School Archery Team for the past two years.
The Portersville Christian School Archery Teams posted on its Facebook page that Cole will always be a model of leadership and team spirit. The post went on to say that school is heartbroken over the sudden loss and to please pray for comfort and peace for those family and friends left to grieve.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, but Wilson was transported to Grove City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
