Hundreds March For Racial Justice On MLK Jr. Day
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Hundreds of activists in Pittsburgh marked the day honoring Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday by marching for racial justice.
About 300 people marched from Oakland to downtown Pittsburgh calling for action against racism and inequality.
"We have to organize to reclaim, remain, and rebuild our city," one speaker said.
Marchers say today is a very important day to commemorate a man who left an incredible mark on this Country, and continue his legacy.
"I am here because there is a lot of injustice not just here in Pittsburgh but all across America. It's 2015, Dr. Martin Luther King had a dream, a dream that everybody can live together in harmony, and not be guilty because of the color of their skin," one marcher said.
Marchers continued down 5th avenue chanting and holding up signs.
"I'm walking to support lives, all lives," one marcher said.
About 45 officers from the Pennsylvania State Police kept an eye on the march, making sure it didn't spill over onto the Parkway East.
Marchers say they will continue to protest until racism is no more.
Organizers encouraged everyone to attend a City Council meeting Tuesday morning to let city officials know they are not giving up the fight.
