HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) - A house fire has claimed the life of one person in Hopewell Township.

Crews were on scene for hours investigating Friday morning at the Hopewell Township home.

Neighbors tell KDKA they heard a small explosion early in the morning.

"When I opened my eyes, I looked out and there seemed to be a light flashing," neighbor Mark Alviani said.

Alviani heard the noise around 2:45 a.m. He went outside to the nearby intersection and found the flames tearing through his neighbors home in the 5100 block of McIntosh Drive.

"It was coming out of the side of the house facing the road down here. The flames at the side door were pretty significant. A lot of smoke," Alviani said.

According to crews at the scene, multiple people were inside the home at the time of the fire. A fire chief says one person died in the blaze but everyone else made it out ok. No word if any were sent to a hospital.

"I was just hoping the people go out safely. The hole can be rebuilt but you can't replace their lives," Alviani told KDKA.

Crews were limited with information on the victim. Alviani said the people moved in recently.

"I feel for the family. I hope they're dealing with it the best they can and hopefully make peace with it," Alviani said.

At this time, no cause has been given and it is still under investigation.
