HOMEWOOD (KDKA) -- A woman was shot and killed in Homewood Wednesday and police are now asking for the public's help to find the shooter.
Officers were called to the 7300 block of Hamilton Avenue around 5:30 p.m.
KDKA's Brenda Waters Reports:
By the time police and investigators searched the area, night had fallen. Twice, police went back to the scene to continue to search for evidence.
The victim, later identified as 27-year-old Mia Green, was shot several times in the torso behind a house. She later died at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
On Thursday morning, yellow police tape still marked the crime scene. No suspects have been named in the case.
But police have arrested three people in the fatal shooting of another 27-year-old woman, Keiauna Davis. She was killed a week earlier in Wilkinsburg, not too far away from where Green died.
Davis had just gotten her income tax return, and police said she was robbed.
"When a woman is killed or a kid is killed, it has a different feel in the community," says Richard Garland, of the University of Pittsburgh. "I don't know the particulars of this last young lady, but I know it hurts the community in a different way. People are a little more nervous. They don't know what it is."
The killing of one woman is one too many, and those who work in the field of violence prevention say the upward trend is cause for concern.
"Every year, the number of women killed has went up," says Garland. "Whether it's from domestic violence, intimate partner violence, I've just seen more and more."
Anyone with information on Green's fatal shooting is asked to call Pittsburgh Police at (412)-323-7800.
