Holiday Deals Draw People To Stores On Thanksgiving
MONROEVILLE (KDKA) -- Promptly at 6 a.m., the doors at the Monroeville Kmart opened, welcoming customers who were ready to shop.
"I bought a freezer," said Debbie Norrell, one of the early shoppers. "Another doorbuster. I've been wanting this freezer forever and here it is on sale."
Erin Shurant, who lives near Syracuse, New York, but is visiting family in the Pittsburgh area for Thanksgiving said, "We just see what we can get and we hide it from the kids and head home."
Customers perused the aisles, searching for sales and picking up extras. One popular item was one thousand thread count sheets.
"19.99 for the entire set," said Norrell.
Shurant added, "Who doesn't need a thousand count sheets and things like that."
Customers picked up sheets and snacks, toys and more. Cindy Gentile of Turtle Creek brought her list and coupons.
"It's not all Christmas shopping," she said, referring to the items in her cart. "It's day to day, week to week necessities, and some add-ons that become affordable with coupons and the right sale."
Gentile said this wasn't her first time shopping on Thanksgiving morning.
"I have to save when I can and I work most of the holidays, for the past 20 years I've worked almost all but two Thanksgivings, so to me I just fit this in with the family time. It's not hard to do, little sacrifices like sleep," Gentile said.
A small sacrifice for big savings.
