Hit-And-Run Driver Kills Hunting Dog, Injures Man
WASHINGTON TWP. (KDKA) -- Logan Kind, 24, was going hunting over the weekend when a hit-and-run driver ran over his ankle and killed his friend's dog.
"It was a perfect day that turned into a living nightmare," he said from his hospital bed.
It happened on Georgetown Road in Washington Township. Kind and his friend were unloading their truck, planning to hunt geese near a small lake.
Kind saw his friends dog "Blake," a black lab, crossing the road at the same time he heard a car coming towards them.
"It hit me, then it hit the dog, then I rolled over on the ground and I knew exactly what happened, I was trying to prevent the dog from getting hit," Kind said.
The dog was killed instantly. Kind laid on the ground, ankle shattered, screaming for someone to call 911.
His friend, upset by the loss of his dog, came over to help. The man who caused the accident left quickly.
"The guy got out and he said 'I'm sorry,'" Kind said. "I heard the car start up and drive away I ask my friend 'is he going to get help' he said no he just got in his car and left."
Everyone, including family and friends, are calling on the driver to surrender.
"You did a crime now you need to turn yourself in, eventually you'll get caught, people talk, you'll get caught," said Brittany Kind.
"Just kind of seems heartless for someone to do that," Logan Kind said.
Kind was transferred to Allegheny General Hospital, he's facing several surgeries
"There's some serious soft tissue damage. Like I said I have three fractures in my ankle and then the metatarsals there's a few of the metatarsals on the top of foot that are in bad shape," he said.
