Helicopters fly around Point State Park, Brunot Island for exercise

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The thunder of rotor blades filled the air Tuesday in and around the Golden Triangle. 

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and Pennsylvania Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team held a planned exercise with four Black Hawk helicopters.

First responders stage emergency drill with Black Hawk helicopters over Downtown

The helicopters picked up team members near the Highland Park VA property and dropped some of them off at Point State Park while others went to Brunot Island. 

Several rescue operators spent the morning dangling high above and dropping onto waiting boats. One after another, the boats picked up individuals playing the roles of victims in need of help from above.

"We're testing our collaboration, we're testing our unified command, we're testing our equipment," Pittsburgh Fire Chief Darryl Jones said. "And so far, everything is going very well."

The actual operation lasted about two hours.
