Small Plane Hits Tree, Crashes In Hanover Township

HANOVER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A small plane crashed in Hanover Township on Saturday afternoon.

It happened in the 200 block of McKenzie Road just before 5 p.m.

According to Federal Aviation Administration officials, a Piper J3C-65 aircraft hit a tree and crashed on private property. State police say it became stuck in the treetops and came to a rest with its nose against the ground and the tail of the plane still in the trees.

State police say a 23-year-old man from Hookstown, Pa., and a 24-year-old woman from Arlington, Va., were on board the plane. Both were sent to a local hospital for moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
