Teachers' Strike Averted In Greensburg-Salem School District

GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- There will not be a teachers' strike in the Greensburg Salem School District. A last-ditch negotiating effort that began Tuesday night ended with a tentative agreement on a new contract.

The eleventh hour negotiation talks were held at the middle school.

As of 11:30 p.m., there was no word on whether the closed-door negotiations were productive, but early Wednesday morning a brief post on on the district's website announced that a tentative deal was reached and classes would follow their normal schedule.

The 200 teachers in the district have been without a contract since July. The district has about 2,800 students.
