Goddard School Students Raising Big Bucks For KDKA Turkey Fund

MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Sometimes experience isn't the best teacher.

Sometimes we can learn from people who are doing something for the first time.

In Moon Township, some pre-schoolers have already raised more than $1,000 for the KDKA-TV Turkey Fund and the money is still coming in.

Mother Teresa once suggested that we should, "give until it hurts."

The kids at The Goddard School in Moon Township sure love to share.

"If me and my brother are playing with them, he can hand me the Lego that I want," pre-schooler Braden C. said.

KDKA-TV's Rick Dayton visited The Goddard School today and had the honor of talking to them about the KDKA-TV Turkey Fund.

They knew all about it after pooling their pennies to help families in need.

"I thought it was something that had been around, but it also was something the kids could relate to. You know, you can't pick anything that is too hard for them to understand, but giving money for people in need for food at Thanksgiving so they can have a good Thanksgiving dinner is something they can relate to," Goddard School Owner Carol Maier said.

It seems to have started with a handful of coins maybe some quarters, some dimes and pennies and a spare nickel.

But, when it is all said and done, it's hard to believe the money is still pouring in.

"I think because they genuinely love to help each other and help even the teachers and it's a big thing if you are helping Miss Meghan and everything and they knew they were going to help someone -- so they wanted to help," teacher Meghan Meyers said.

"It hasn't stopped. Even though we had the cut-off we still have kiddos coming in with their little bags of change and just some dollar bills and they still want to keep doing it," Education Director Angela Caracciolo said. "So, they want to continue to help and we just think that that's more than we could even ask for."
