Family Of 8 Escapes Blaze That Destroys Sheraden Home

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A fast-moving fire destroyed a home in Sheraden Wednesday morning. A family of eight was inside at the time. Fortunately, they all managed to escape.

Monika Goggins, who was inside the house, is feeling a range of emotions: heartbroken, shocked and yet grateful.

"My family is safe. That's all that matters. Everything I got can be replaced," said Monika Goggins.

She tells KDKA she along with her husband, six kids and pets were inside the Glen Mawr Street home when the fire started around 6:45 a.m. It was her husband who braved the conditions as he ran inside the house at least three times to get everyone out.

"I thank him so much for that. I don't know what I'd do without my husband," said Goggins.

"One adult male was treated by medics for smoke inhalation and he is fine," said Pittsburgh Police Spokesperson Cara Cruz.

While the cause is being investigated, Goggins says for the past few days she heard a crackling sound behind their couch in the living room. At first, she didn't think much of it.

"I heard the same thing I heard yesterday. And it ended up being I guess electrical or whatever it is," said Goggins.

The family only lived inside the home for about 10 months. Now, with all of their belongings destroyed, they'll be leaning on others to get through before they have to start over again.
