MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Police are looking for two suspects in connection with a Moon Township home invasion that left a young girl injured.
Jane Dotter said her neighbor demanded that she call the police after he told her that he and his daughter, who police believe is under the age of 12, were robbed.
"There was a wild knock at the door. I was sleeping in front of TV, and it was my neighbor Ed, and he was very frantic," said Dotter. "He said he had to get his daughter out of the house."
The robbery happened at a home on Hayeswold Drive in Moon Township just before 7 a.m. Wednesday.
"They were awakened, and two men had flashlights and handguns. Their faces were covered with a bandana-type thing, and they had hoodies," said Moon Township Police Chief Leo McCarthy.
After grabbing two cell phones, a TV and some cash, police said the two men had the father and his daughter stay in a bedroom, and then they took off. Police said the father and his daughter climbed out of a back window because the dad thought the bedroom door could be booby trapped.
The little girl fractured her leg during the escape.
"She was very traumatized by this and had physical pain. If you ever had a fractured bone in the ankle or leg, that's tremendous pain," Chief McCarthy said.
Police later recovered the cell phones that were taken during the robbery by pinging one near the I-376 business loop and Ewing Road. The second phone was found nearby on the Parkway under an overpass. Police still had no luck finding the masked men.
"Mostly people walk their dogs and go to cookouts and normal stuff. There is nobody strange in neighborhood," Dotter said. "I think people in the neighborhood are a little on edge."
The child was taken to a local hospital for treatment to her injured leg.
Police are reviewing surveillance cameras in hopes of spotting the suspects, but so far haven't had any luck. Police do believe the men took off in a car, but don't have a description.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Moon Township Police at (412)-262-5000.
Police say this type of robbery is extremely rare in the area and don't believe this father and daughter don't know who the suspects are.
