Girl Honoring Her Late Father By Donating Girl Scout Cookies To Children's Hospital
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A 7-year-old girl is using Girl Scout cookies to honor her father who passed away.
Emily Ruggieri from Greensburg is collecting donations to buy boxes of Girl Scout cookies for sick kids and their families at Children's Hospital.
"Daddy Ethan loved Girl Scout cookies," said Emily.
Her birth father, Ethan Milliron, had a childhood bone cancer and was treated at Children's even as an adult. He passed away when he was just 24.
Last year, Emily and her Girl Scout troop raised enough to deliver 4,000 boxes of cookies to Children's. This year, her goal is 5,000.
So far she's gotten donations from all 50 states and a list of countries.
She almost has enough to buy 3,000 boxes at this point.
Her mom Suzanne Ruggieri says she's so proud of what her daughter is doing and that this shows to the kids something good can turn into something important.
Her father, John Ruggieri, tracks the fundraising effort on Facebook.
"We're actually further ahead of the pace last year, and my mind is just blown!," Said Ruggieri.
