Get Marty: Man Wrongfully Arrested No Longer Faces Charges

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A local man has gone through quite an ordeal -- arrested for a crime he didn't commit, locked up for weeks, then mistakenly arrested a second time after getting out of jail.

Now, he's finally getting his life back.

Rex Coughenour describes his month in the Allegheny County Jail as a "living hell".

The 61-year-old Pittsburgh man was wrongfully arrested last September on the South Side.

Coughenour was accused of beating and robbing a pregnant woman.

"I have no criminal record. I never broke the law in my life. I cannot thank you enough for helping me," says Coughenour.

KDKA first told Rex's story last month when Rex reached out to our Get Marty. The Duquesne University grad student was freed from jail after surveillance video showed he did not commit the crime. KDKA also told you he was arrested again. Coughenour was accused of trespassing on Pitt's campus. His mugshot led police to believe he was still wanted for the assault charges.

Now, all charges have been dropped. Coughenour faces no charges.

"I have people coming up to me on the streets. A woman offered to buy my groceries," says Coughenour.

However, Coughenour now needs his arrest record to be expunged. If he needs help in doing so, the Get Marty team will provide him with an attorney to take care of it.
