Get Marty: Community Pulls Together To Help Boy With Cerebral Palsy

PLUM (KDKA) -- A Plum family with a special needs child reached out to KDKA and Get Marty, and it looks like the whole community stepped up.

"We couldn't be more thankful. This is amazing," says Nikki Gratton.

Her 7-year-old son, Jeremy, has Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. He cannot speak and has very little use of his arms or legs.

Every morning, his 16-year-old sister, Faith, carries him up down the stairs from the family home to a waiting bus.

"It's exhausting, but he's my brother. I love him," says Faith Gratton.

So, the family needs a stair lift and other medical equipment for their home. Jeremy also needs modifications to his bedroom and other parts of the home.

KDKA reached out to the Carpenters Union and Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh to get the work done.

"We love to help. We cannot turn you down, Marty," says Steve Mazza with the Carpenters Union.

About 20 carpenters and a number of other volunteers will do the work at the Gratton home in the next few weeks. The value of the work is nearly $50,000.

All of the work and the equipment needed in the home will be donated.

If you'd like Marty to help you solve your problem, email him at GetMarty@kdka.com.
