Frigid Cold Returning To Pittsburgh Region

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - Pennsylvania residents digging out from as much as 8 inches of snow or more are now being warned about dangerous wind chills expected in many areas.

The National Weather Service says a wind chill advisory is expected to go into effect from 4 a.m. Monday until 1 p.m., with temperatures feeling like 10 to 15 degrees below zero.

"The cold is just going to keep on coming and it's not going to let up anytime soon," said KDKA's Jon Burnett.

Monday is expected to be the coldest day this week, with a high of only 10 degrees.

NWS officials say about 4 inches of snow fell in the city and outlying regions during Saturday's storm.

The storm Saturday into early Sunday also prompted delays and cancellations at Philadelphia International Airport and speed restrictions on many highways.

Forecasters have issued now wind chill advisories for much of western and central Pennsylvania, saying double-digit wind chill estimates are expected into Tuesday morning that could cause frostbite and hypothermia if precautions aren't taken.

Authorities say speed and weather-related road conditions were a factor in a pickup truck's collision with a tractor-trailer that killed the 43-yearold driver of the smaller vehicle in western Pennsylvania. State police in Armstrong County say the pickup was "traveling too fast for conditions" when it went out of control heading downhill on a snow-covered Route 422 in Plumcreek Township at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday. The driver was flown to UPMC Presbyterian, where he died early Sunday morning.

Pittsburgh police say a burglary suspect seen crawling out of a downtown building window tried to escape officers Sunday afternoon by fleeing across the frozen-over Allegheny River to the city's North Shore neighborhood, where he was arrested. Police allege that he was found to be carrying more than 100 scratch-off lottery tickets and a screwdriver and will face charges of burglary, possessing instruments of crime and escape.

Snowplow drivers checking on a car in another part of western Pennsylvania discovered the body of a woman who had been shot. Police in Fayette County identified the victim as 37-year-old Mya Ann Grady of Uniontown and opened a criminal homicide investigation.
