4, including 3 children, hospitalized after fire in Pittsburgh area
MONONGAHELA, Pa. (KDKA) — Four people were taken to the hospital following a fire in Washington County on Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out at a home on Park Avenue in Monongahela at around 4 a.m. The fire started in the kitchen and spread to the rest of the home.
The woman who lives at the home told KDKA-TV that when she realized her house was on fire, she grabbed her three children and started screaming for help from a bedroom window.
A nearby neighbor was first on the scene and put a ladder up to the window. The family then climbed out of the window and stayed on the roof of their front porch until firefighters arrived.
The woman and her children were immediately taken to the hospital and are doing OK. The woman told KDKA-TV off camera that she is thankful to be alive.
An EMS worker also was evaluated at the scene.
The state police fire marshal is investigating. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
