Former Steeler A.Q. Shipley Ready For Return To Heinz Field With Colts
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Moon High School graduate and former Penn State University football player, A.Q. Shipley will be returning to Pittsburgh as a center for the Indianapolis Colts.
Shipley joined The Starkey and Mueller Show and reflected on his early football days at MHS and PSU, "[Going pro] was a goal of mine from the get go. I put everything I had into it."
Shipley was drafted by the Steelers as a seventh-round pick in 2009. In the past, he has played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens.
"I grew up a Steelers fan and getting drafted by them was something special, as well, and obviously, things didn't work out there, but I've been able to find my niche in a couple different places here, and I've been getting a lot of playing time," Shipley said. "Where ever you're at, it's all about just getting on the field and playing, whether it's in your hometown or not."
However, the road to the Colts was not as easy as Shipley makes it look.
"Things haven't been as smooth going as they were in high school and college," Shipley said of his recent days in the NFL. "I've battled every short coming that I may have. Kicked, clogged, grinded out, six years later I'm still in this league."
The Colts have won the last five of their games and are hoping to scoop up a sixth against the Steelers at Heinz Field on Sunday at 4:35 p.m.
