Former Pitt OL Jimbo Covert: I Think We Can Compete Nationally Now
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Former Pitt and Bears offensive lineman Jimbo Covert joined The Cook and Poni Show on Friday to talk about the Pitt football program and this weekends NFL Championship games.
Covert says he likes the hiring of Pat Narduzzi as the new head coach and he thinks this Pitt football program is heading in the right direction.
"I think he is going to do a phenomenal job," Covert said. "He is a high-energy guy and a great recruiter and that is what college football is all about. You have to get kids to buy into the program."
Covert says the search is also on for a new athletic director and he thinks the new leadership at Pitt will make them more relevant nationally for the top recruits.
"I am really pleased with the direction we are going in," Covert said. "I think we can compete nationally now."
Covert also talked to the guys about the 1985 Chicago Bears team he won a Super Bowl with and he said there is no comparison between their defense and the Seattle Seahawks defense today. He said there is no doubt that the Bears' defense was the best.
"That was such a dominating defense," Covert sad. "They had quarterbacks running scared."
