Former Penguin Hal Gill Announces Retirement

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - After 16 season, 1,108 career games and a Stanley Cup with the Penguins back in 2009, defenseman Hal Gill has announced his retirement from the NHL.

Gill came to the Penguins at the the NHL trade deadline during the 2007-08 season for a 2nd and 5th-round draft choice.

During his year and a half with the Pens, Gill appeared in 80 games, scoring 3 goals and tallying 11 assists and a +/- of 17.

Gill played a key role for the Pens as he offered them the size and grit in front of the net that they were missing on their way to a Cup run.

Gill broke into the league when he was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 8th round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft and went on to make his NHL debut with the Bruins on October 17, 1997.

Gill played for the Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Penguins, Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators and Philadelphia Flyers throughout his 16-year career.
