PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Former NFL player and Jeannette native Terrelle Pryor has been arrested following an alleged altercation with his girlfriend in Penn Township.
Pryor is facing charges of simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief.
Penn Township Police were called to a house in Pryor's hometown of Jeanette around 1 a.m.
Pryor's girlfriend, identified in the criminal complaint at Shalaya Briston, called 911 after he allegedly starting throwing pumpkins at her vehicle while she tried to drive away, police said.
"We took Terrelle Pryor into custody last night for assaulting a female. That doesn't sit in any of our moral codes and certainly doesn't sit within the Pennsylvania Crime Code," Penn Township Police Chief John Otto said.
According to the criminal complaint, Briston told police the pair returned home after a night out at a bar in Oakmont. She said Pryor went into the home while she went to another bar located in Murrysville.
While out, Briston said she and Pryor got into an argument via text messaging. The criminal complaint reports that she received more than 50 calls and 30 unanswered text messages from Pryor.
Briston told police that when she returned to the home, she stayed out on the back deck because "she did not want to enter the residence out of fear of Pryor," according to the criminal complaint.
Police say Pryor eventually found Briston on the deck. The criminal complaint says she told police he began shoving her and slapping her in the face.
Police say Briston had inflammation, redness and bruising under her left eye.
The criminal complaint says as Briston tried to run away, Pryor allegedly threw a deck chair at her. He is then accused of throwing pumpkins at her black Mercedes Benz SUV. Police say the impact of the pumpkins caused large dents and spider-webbing to the glass of the front windshield.
Police say Pryor denied hitting Briston, but he did admit to throwing the pumpkins.
"Terrelle will be put into contact with people who can help him with his issues through the legal system. And the female victim, in this case, will be given some information and put in touch with a victim-witness service in Westmoreland County," Otto said.
Last October, Pryor and Briston both pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a stabbing at the Heinz Lofts in Pittsburgh in November of 2019. Briston, who was accused of stabbing Pryor at the North Side apartment complex after an argument, pleaded guilty to simple assault. Pryor pleaded guilty to harassment.
Both faced probation.
