Continuous Rain Leads To Flooding Throughout Region

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The near-constant rain should finally let up Wednesday morning, but it gave the week a wet start and led to flooding around the area.

The HOV Lanes for the Parkway North were closed due to flooding. However, they reopened shortly after 6 a.m.

PennDOT also said there were restrictions along Route 51 in Brentwood. The high water near Marylea Avenue and Stewart Avenue subsided, and the road is open.

Also early Wednesday morning, water was bubbling out of a manhole on West Liberty Avenue in West Liberty. The water rushed into the basement of Slick's Bar and Grill. Reports say the bar had about four feet of water in the basement.

There were several school closures Wednesday morning as well.

A power outage forced the closure of Bentworth Middle School in Washington County. Meanwhile, classes are cancelled for Rogers and Burchfield Primary School students due to a water main break.

In Greenfield, the storm caused a different problem for homeowner John Stewart.

"I heard a crackling noise and I looked outside and a tree was on my house," said Stewart.

The tree slammed into the roof of Stewart's home along Naylor Street. Stewart said he will have to wait until it's light outside to see the extent of the damage.

Power outages are also leaving people in the dark Wednesday morning. As of 4 a.m., Duquesne Light has 650 customers without power in Braddock, Forest Hills, Oakmont, the Hill District, Shadyside, Rankin and Wilkins Township.

Penn Power reports up to 2,000 outages. The hardest hit area is Burgettstown, where more than 1,500 people are without power.
