Fleury Brings Back Yellow Pads, Pays Tribute To Barrasso

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A lot of things are new about the Pittsburgh Penguins this year, including the recently revealed third jerseys.

Many fans were begging the Penguins to ditch the blue third jerseys for the iconic black and gold variety.

The fans got their wish and the team is going to look sharp in their "Pittsburgh Gold" jerseys.

It should come as no surprise that Marc-Andre Fleury is going all-in.

Over the years, Fleury has tailored his gear to the third jerseys. Most recently, he donned gold pads for the Outdoor Series game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

When Fleury burst onto the NHL scene, he did it with bright yellow pads and gloves. Well, he's bringing them back.

Today, Penguins Head Equipment Manager Dana Heinze posted pictures of the equipment Fleury will wear with the new third jerseys.

As you can see, the yellow pads and gloves are back and they are spectacular.

However, the crowning jewel of the ensemble is Fleury's mask, which may remind Penguins fans of one Tom Barrasso used to wear.

The first time we are likely to see Fleury in his new gear is Oct. 22 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Meanwhile, the Penguins will open up the season on Thursday against the Anaheim Ducks.
