First Niagara Banks Changing To KeyBank This Weekend

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh area customers of First Niagara Bank have gotten used to name changes.

After all, First Niagara used to be National City which used to be Integra which used to be Equibank.

The latest name is KeyBank, a Cleveland-based bank which acquired First Niagara earlier this year and will make a full conversion of the 60 First Niagara branches in this region over the Columbus Day weekend.

"The combined organization will now be the 13th largest commercial bank in the country," Todd Moules told KDKA money editor Jon Delano on Friday.

Moules, who led First Niagara in Pittsburgh and will now lead KeyBank here, says this is a win-win for customers.

"For our customers they'll get a much more robust mobile platform. We'll bring more products and services to our middle market customers, namely in the investment banking side."

For First Niagara customers this is the transition weekend to KeyBank.

What does that mean?

It means all the branch banks will be closed until Tuesday morning. but First Niagara customers will have full access to their cash through ATMs.

Even after the conversion, First Niagara customers will continue to use their current credit and debit cards until they expire -- and their First Niagara checks until they run out -- and all passwords and on-line connections remain the same.

First Niagara's banking partnership with the Penguins now becomes KeyBank's partnership which Moules says benefits customers.

"We do have programs where customers have access to tickets. We have customers are entertained at the Penguins. They have discounts on Penguins merchandise. "

As for the First Niagara Pavilion, once known as Star Lake, stay tuned.

"We haven't communicated any decisions on the pavilion."

But don't be surprised if it becomes KeyBank Pavilion before the next season opens.
