FBI: Korean Firm Scammed Out Of $375K For Fake Pharrell Show
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The FBI in Pittsburgh says a Maryland man scammed a South Korean steel company out of $375,000 by pretending to work for a Japanese talent agency on behalf of musician Pharrell Williams.
The charges against 28-year-old Sigismond Segbefia are filed on Pittsburgh, because that's where he's also accused of stealing the identity of a western Pennsylvania postal worker, which he allegedly used to bilk money from women he met online.
The suspect was arrested when he landed at JFK International Airport in New York on Tuesday. He's since been released to his home in Silver Spring, Maryland, but must appear before a federal judge May 14 in Pittsburgh.
The FBI says the postal worker whose identity was stolen for the alleged online dating scams didn't even own a computer.
