Father, Son Injured In Pit Bull Attack In Beaver Co.
INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police in Beaver County had to put down a dog after it attacked a father and son Thursday evening.
The incident happened just after 7:30 p.m. at a home in the 100-block of Patterson Farm Road in Independence Township.
Police say the dog, Buddy, was the family dog. They had had Buddy since he was a puppy.
Reportedly the father and son got into an argument, which is when the dog started going after the two.
Police say the dog bit off a chunk of the father's chin and bit the son's nose. One of them then grabbed a knife and started stabbing the dog to try to stop it from attacking them.
That's when they called 911.
"Pretty gruesome injuries," said Police Chief Lance Malobabich. "The father will probably have to get some plastic surgery to his chin. I'm not too sure about the son, but I believe he may have to get some stitches for his nose."
According to emergency officials, police had to shoot and kill the dog.
Neighbors who know the family, and Buddy, say the whole situation is upsetting.
"Sad," said one neighbor, "shocked and sad."
The father and son were both taken to a local hospital for treatment.
