Monday's high temperatures expected to hit the low 90s for the Pittsburgh area

KDKA-TV Morning Forecast (7-15-2024)

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - We have experienced 12 days so far this year with highs in the 90s, which is already more than we normally average for the entire year (10).

Daily average High: 83° Low: 64°
Sunrise: 6:02 a.m. Sunset: 8:50 p.m.

FIRST ALERT: First Alert Weather Days are in effect Monday and Tuesday for extreme heat and isolated strong to severe storms.

AWARE: Cooler mid-week!

Monday and Tuesday will likely reach the lower-to-mid 90s, with dewpoints and humidity on the rise later today and tomorrow, pushing heat indices into the mid-to-upper 90s at times.

On top of this heat, we also have a 1 out of 5 risk of severe weather on Monday, and 2 out of 5 for Tuesday. These days are First Alert Weather Days due to heat and the severe storm risk.

As for those storms, the chances will be spotty, but a bit better Tuesday afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts will be possible, with stronger thunderstorms this afternoon and early evening and strong to severe storms anticipated to track through the region again later Tuesday.

Damaging wind gusts will again be the main threat, but large hail, a few tornadoes, and flash flooding will all be possible as well. If storms don't materialize with these disturbances, the heat will build more than if we have rain, storms and cloud cover both days.

Wednesday could bring a better chance for showers, a few storms, and much-needed rain since we are in very dry to drought conditions across southwestern Pennsylvania. After that cold front passes, we'll get a break from the heat the rest of the week with highs in the 80s!
