Extravagant Love Makeover Event To Benefit Dozens Of Homeless & Abused Women
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - It is an event all about love.
Dozens of homeless and abused women will receive makeovers this weekend. But, it's about much more than just a new hairstyle and makeup.
It will be a full day of pampering for 150 homeless and abused women.
"That means getting their hair styled, makeup, manicures, pedicures and we've partnered with Dress for Success. So, they'll get a full outfit of clothing," Denise Graves said.
The ladies, currently staying in shelters around the area, are taking part in the 3rd Annual Extravagant Love Makeover.
Graves, the project director, says the event is all about showing the women that they're loved.
"A lot of them, their dreams have been crushed, but nothing is impossible with God," Graves said.
The event on Saturday doesn't end with the makeovers.
Three Port Authority buses will take the ladies to the Pittsburgh Project on the North Side.
They'll be greeted by a red carpet and taken inside for a gala complete with a sit down dinner and a fashion show.
"When they got off those buses, a lot of them were weeping. This is for us, they couldn't get over that we would do this for them and it was just so special for them," Graves said.
A total of 70 women were part of the event the first year. That number has more than doubled.
Saturday will be a magical night for the women who have faced countless obstacles and struggles.
"You just never know the impact that you can make and how crucial it is. It's not just about the body, at night, it's about their soul and their spirit," Graves said.
