Train Carrying Fireworks Arrives In Detroit With Half Of Shipment Missing

DETROIT (KDKA) -- Authorities are investigating after a train carrying fireworks arrived in Detroit with half of its shipment -- more than 500 pounds of explosives -- missing.

CBS News reports that at least 32 cases of fireworks have been reported missing from a train that was traveling from Chicago to Detroit last week. Authorities believe the explosives were stolen and are concerned that the high quantity of commercial grade fireworks could be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands.

According to CBS News sources, the theft was reported earlier this week. Investigators believe the explosives were stolen at some point during its journey through three states. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Detroit and Detroit Police are investigating.
