Coronavirus In Pittsburgh: Emergency Drive-Up Food Distribution Event Scheduled At PPG Paints Arena This Friday
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank has scheduled an emergency drive-up food distribution event at PPG Paints Arena.
The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is teaming up with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Police to make the much-needed event possible.
It's scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 10. The food bank is preparing to serve 1,300 vehicles.
"There's a lot of fear in the community, a lot of concern, so much uncertainty right now. And the one thing people don't want to have to worry about is where is their next meal coming from," said Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank CEO Lisa Scales.

According to a press release, all traffic will enter the parking lots from Centre Avenue. Traffic restrictions on Bedford and Centre avenues will be in place. More details will be announced Thursday.
The last time there was a drive-up distribution, two rows of cars stretched for miles all the way out to Route 837 in Duquesne.
Scales told KDKA she's worked for the food bank for nearly 25 years. In that time, she's responded to both Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and 9/11 in New York, but she's never seen a need quite like the coronavirus pandemic.
"We are getting people here to our front door, hundreds of people everyday. We've also received over 6,000 views on our get help page on the website, plus we are taking thousands of phone calls," Scales said.
To date, staff and volunteers have packed 42,000 emergency food boxes with plans to distribute 10,000 a week.
