Fire Damages 2 Ellwood City Homes

ELLWOOD CITY (KDKA) – A fast-moving fire kept emergency crews busy Thursday evening in Ellwood City.

Two homes caught fire around 8 p.m. on the 100 block of Orchard Avenue.

Both homes were occupied, but everyone managed to escape the buildings unharmed.

One man was asleep on the second floor of the home where the fire initially broke out, fire officials say. He tried to get out by using the stairs, but the smoke was too thick. Instead, he climbed out of a window and out onto the roof and crews rescued him from there.

The first home caught fire on multiple floors, while the second home caught fire in the attic area when the blaze spread.

The second home has both smoke and water damage.

The Red Cross is helping the fire victims. Also, fire officials say one firefighter was treated for heat-related injuries.

The fire marshal was called to the scene.
