Elementary School Put On 2-Hour Delay After Shooting At Freedom Home

FREEDOM (KDKA) -- Police in Beaver County are investigating after one man was wounded in an early morning shooting.

The Freedom Police Chief says the man was shot inside the home but he didn't live there. He was visiting.

The chief says there were several people inside the residence when the shooting happened.

Police officers stood outside in the 300-block of Fifth Street Friday morning. Crime tape surrounded the home where police say one man was shot just after 6 a.m. He was flown to a local hospital.

"It's kind of surprising," said Brittany Gingerella, who lives nearby, "but, I mean, it really doesn't worry me too much."

Freedom Elementary School was put on a two-hour delay as a result of the shooting. There are three bus stops near the scene.

Gingerella says this is normally a quiet neighborhood.

"There's a ton of kids on this block," Gingerella said, standing at her front door. "It's usually pretty quiet, there's usually not much going on."

Police believe two shots were fired during the shooting. They say it wasn't a home invasion, though they haven't released a motive.

Detectives are interviewing people who were inside the home at the time of the shooting. They have identified a possible suspect, but so far no charges have been filed.
