Elderly Man Struck, Killed In Butler County Parking Lot
ADAMS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A trip to get a haircut turned deadly, after a man walking across a parking lot was hit by a car in Butler County.
It happened around 5 p.m. Wednesday when the elderly man was hit by the suspected drunk driver.
Investigators say the impact threw 80-year-old Bill Kvindis 16-feet.
Kvindis, and his companion of 16-years, Jeani Pierce, were walking across the Adams Ridge parking lot heading to the Great Clips when the accident happened.
A stylist says the two parked the car, and Pierce was walking in front of him when he was hit.
"By the time we got out there 10 to 12 people had already showed up to help take care of him, we got blankets out of our cars to make sure he was taken care of," Terri Stobert said.
A Christmas wreath and balloons mark the spot where Kvindis was hit, hours later he died at UPMC Presbyterian during surgery.
"He was a very kind man and always engaged people in conversation," family friend Dave Riesmeyer says. "Always had a joke or tried to make you laugh, enjoyed spending time with his family."
Adams Township police say a 62-year-old man was taken into custody suspected of DUI.
He was released pending blood work results.
Ironically, the driver, and the elderly couple all got their hair cut at the Great Clips.
Police expect to charge the driver within the next few days.
